Frequently Asked Questions

and other questions you might have

  • Is it possible to collaborate remotely?

Yes, I work remotely with all of my clients. We discuss the requirements mostly through email. It is even possible to send files that are required for prototyping and manufacturing through email.

  • How can I hire you for the design of my product?

You can fill in the contact form or write me at info@ridzert.com.

  • What are the steps in your design process?

After discussing the requirements of your new product, the first step is to create drawings of what the product could look like. Based on your favorite idea, I then create an initial 3D model using CAD software. The final step is to finalize the model and to create files that manufacturers can use for prototyping and mass production. If you’re interested in photorealistic images of the product, I can help you out with these as well.

  • How long does it take to create a new design?

My standard process for creating a new design usually takes between 4 weeks and 2 months. It depends on the complexity of the product.

  • Do you also design packagings?

Yes. I design physical products as well as packagings in which products can be presented, protected, and transported.

  • What does it cost to develop a new product?

The costs for developing a new product depend on a lot of factors. Usually, multiple services are involved in the creation of a new product. For more in depth information, check out this article.

  • What does it cost to make a physical product?

Production costs are highly dependent on the amount of products that are manufactured, the materials that are used, the desired precision, and more. Keep in mind that there are normally multiple services involved in creating a new design. You can read more about these services here.

  • What is industrial design?

Industrial design is the profession of creating products for mass production. This could be anything from street lights to kettles or pill boxes. Objects that people will use or interact with in their day to day lives.

  • What is an industrial designer?

An industrial designer is a problem solver who translates ideas or specific needs into physical products. These products are designed with manufacturing techniques in mind, so that they can be produced in high numbers. Designers take care of the functionality, look and feel, and internal construction of the product.

  • What is product design?

'Product design' is a widely used term for two fields:

    1. Physical product design, also called 'industrial design': The design of physical products for end users, for example a chair or a tap.

    2. Digital product design: The design of digital products, 100% digital, you can't physically touch the end results, for example apps or websites.

  • What is injection molding?

Injection molding is a production technique in which molten material is injected into a mold. It is widely used for the creation of plastic products.

  • What is CNC milling?

CNC milling is a computer controlled manufacturing process and 'CNC' stands for 'Computer Numerical Control'. The initial piece of material (called a ‘blank’) is processed by removing material with a cutting tool.

  • What is 3D printing?

3D printing is a denominator for a wide range of additive manufacturing techniques that all come down to the ‘printing’ of a physical model in layers. You can send a 3D model to a 3D printer to create it, layer by layer. The technique is available for a wide range of materials.
