Smart Thermometer

Client: FireBoard Labs, USA

FireBoard Labs and I are collaborating for multiple years now. I designed the enclosure of the FireBoard 2 thermometer series in close cooperation with the company.

In December 2021, the series won a Good Design® Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

It has an aluminum front and a plastic case with overmolded rubber sleeve. The parts are combined into a weather-resistant case. The firm has a special landing page about the new thermometer.

The front features a large backlit display that is able to show temperature readings of the six probe channels at once. Two indication lights are placed in the top corners.

The buttons allow the user to select channel readings and graphs. They are part of the rubber sleeve, and therefore no extra parts were needed for the buttons. They are flexible, but solid enough to press the corresponding electronics inside the enclosure.

The project involved designing the enclosure of the electronics and communicating how to improve the printed circuit board in order to fit everything nicely in the case. I also designed a magnetic base for the FireBoard 2.
